Leadership Coaching in the NHS Cancer Alliances
We’ve been privileged to work alongside NHS Cancer Alliance leaders, offering coaching programmes that create space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what matters. Participants told us they left with stronger leadership confidence, improved wellbeing, and practical tools to lead through complexity. The impact reaches far beyond the individual — improving team dynamics, service delivery, and organisational resilience.
We’ve always been deeply inspired when working alongside colleagues in the NHS Cancer Alliances. The challenges faced in leading transformative cancer care and improving outcomes for patients, staff, and communities are significant — but the dedication, integrity, and leadership shown by those involved is nothing short of remarkable.
It’s been a privilege for us to support many of these leaders through tailored coaching programmes, particularly within the West Yorkshire and Harrogate and Northern Cancer Alliances. And the findings from our recent programme evaluations are a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people are given the space, support, and tools to grow.
What we heard from participants:
Coaches were consistently praised for creating safe, supportive environments — places where leaders could pause, reflect, and reconnect with what matters. Participants valued the combination of skilled listening, empathy, constructive challenge, and practical tools that could be applied immediately in their roles.
The outcomes were felt at every level:
Professional Development
Stronger leadership confidence
Enhanced self-awareness and clarity of purpose
Improved performance and decision-making in complex, pressured environments
Personal Growth
Better wellbeing and stress management
Stronger, more honest relationships with colleagues
Increased assertiveness and alignment with personal values
Organisational Impact
Direct and indirect service improvements
Enhanced productivity and team dynamics
Higher levels of job satisfaction, resilience, and retention
As one participant reflected:
“I feel so much more confident and aware of my own worth.”
Another shared:
“Coaching has helped me view my role and contribution in a completely different light.”
Why it matters
What’s clear is that the value of these programmes extends well beyond professional development. Leaders are returning to their roles with renewed clarity, confidence, and a deeper sense of purpose — and it’s showing in their teams, their services, and the communities they serve.
Leadership coaching in complex systems like the NHS isn’t a luxury; it’s a vital part of creating the kind of connected, resilient, people-focused systems we need for the future. The benefits — to individuals, teams, and the wider organisation — are both immediate and long-lasting.
It’s a privilege to witness that change, and to walk alongside leaders who are making a genuine difference every day.
